CasaLingua Resources - saving time for Spanish teachers everywhere!

Christmas is a great time but events sometimes pass us by with so much going on! Book early and pop the dates of our socials in the diary!

We opened up our doors at 10 am and from that moment until we closed at 12.15, we had a room full of enthusiastic language learners, friends and family members.

The idea of the event was to celebrate our one year birthday and, as always, to give people the opportunity to come together and enjoy being in our wonderful learning space. It was great to see my students chatting with newcomers, sharing with them stories of their language learning journey and giving words or encouragement to put our visitors at ease.

I should give a few words of thanks to Mel and David who gave up their morning to come and support the event. Also, a big thank you to the lovely Jemma from Creative Kitchen for the beautiful cupcakes. Finally, thank you to my mum and daughter Maisie for their expert waitressing and coffee making efforts when I was busy talking! Here’s to the next year!

Did you know that September 26th is the European Day of Languages? To celebrate, CasaLingua is opening it’s doors from 9.30-11.00 for students, friends, family - and anyone who would like to come along - for an free morning of informal coffee and conversation!

Yes, we teach language but did you know that we also run regular social events? There’s lots on offer this Autumn and Winter…

Who wouldn’t want to come and spend a summer’s evening sampling delicious French, Spanish and Italian wines? Newcastle Wine School promise to offer their expertise on the wines they bring - sparkling whites, rosé and light summer reds - and leave you with a better understanding of how to taste and enjoy good wine!

I mentioned this event a while ago and I’ve just been trying to find a date! So, Spanish games night will debut at CasaLingua on Saturday 10th May and the doors open at 19.00.

Kim will provide a variety of authentic Spanish games and a bit of key language to help you communicate in Spanish as much as possible of the course of the evening. Part of the fun will, however, involve working out the game rules ;)

Booking is required by April 30th. A minimum of 10 people is needed in order to run the event, so tell your (Spanish speaking) friends and let’s have some fun!

Join us at CasaLingua for a hands-on workshop led by Egle from the amazing Bloomhead. You will craft your very own planted sedum and ivy wreath—a beautiful, living decoration that will continue to thrive on your front door for months to come. Using traditional floristry materials like moss and wire, you’ll learn how to assemble and care for your wreath, making it a lasting piece of natural beauty.

The cost is £40* per person (materials and light refreshments included). Booking is essential (places are limited)

David and Susie are both really excited to be delivering these fun short courses. With a relaxed approach, our supportive tutors will be helping people who are heading off on holiday (and wanting to communicate) learn some key phrases and vocabulary. Each lesson focuses on a different part of the holiday so that you feel comfortable greeting people and introducing yourself, ordering drinks and snacks, finding your way around town and asking for help. Vocab lists and worksheets are provided every week so that you leave your lessons armed with your language ‘toolkit’ - that you will hopefully put in practice on holiday!

The cost of the course is £60 per person and places are limited.

On Saturday 22nd February CasaLingua is delighted to bring ‘Call my quaff’ to Consett - a fun evening of wine tasting run by independent, qualified tutors from Newcastle Wine School!

Over the 2 hours you will taste and learn about wines from Italy, France and Spain. To add to the fun, the two guest presenters will each describe the wines that you have in front of you - but can you tell which one of them is telling the truth? Either way, you get to drink several glasses of delicious wine! There will also be an interval where you will sample a selection of cheeses and charcuterie washed down, of course, with some extra wine.

On Saturday 7th December, CasaLingua students came along - despite the driving wind and rain! - to CasaLingua HQ for a night of Christmas fun with a language themed pub quiz, led by Kim!

After a couple of hours of hard and competitive quizzing, the winners were revealed. Well done to Natalie and her family who went home with a £20 voucher to put towards their next set of lessons. Look out for future quizzes as this will definitely been something that runs again!

CasaLingua has started a new chapter! On Saturday 2nd November, I welcomed new and existing students along to see my lovely new home! I’m really pleased with the way the room looks and feels and I look forward to seeing lots more of you at my future classes and events!

This event was hosted by The Land of Oak and Iron and, as was the case for the Spanish event, it gave the attendees a taste of both Italian food and language!
