How it all began!
Kim was recently asked to write a reflective article for the Association for Language Learning. You might be surprised to find out that Kim didn’t become a teacher until she was nearly 30! The article is honest, entertaining and a fascinating insight into how everything began at CasaLingua!
Why learning a language is good for your brain
Learning a language isn’t just fun, it’s good for your brain! A number of scientific studies have shown that the cognitive benefits of language learning are broad. We look at what they have found.

Tutor back teaching the language he loves
Teaching adults Italian is like having a ‘bunch of model pupils’, according to schoolteacher David Khachikian! Find out how he became a CasaLingua tutor.
It’s wine’o clock!
Do you like to know a bit about the wine that you’re drinking? Do you often wonder which wine to serve with the food that you’ve prepared? Do you like to try new wines and figure out if the more expensive options are worth it? If this sounds like you’re kind of thing, then come and join us!
Meet French tutor Melanie
CasaLingua has many great tutors. So let’s meet them. First up is Melanie Cornforth, a native French woman who teaches French and Spanish for CasaLingua, a growing language school in County Durham.

What’s coming up?
Christmas is a great time but events sometimes pass us by with so much going on! Book early and pop the dates of our socials in the diary!
A brilliant birthday bash!
We opened up our doors at 10 am and from that moment until we closed at 12.15, we had a room full of enthusiastic language learners, friends and family members.
The idea of the event was to celebrate our one year birthday and, as always, to give people the opportunity to come together and enjoy being in our wonderful learning space. It was great to see my students chatting with newcomers, sharing with them stories of their language learning journey and giving words or encouragement to put our visitors at ease.
I should give a few words of thanks to Mel and David who gave up their morning to come and support the event. Also, a big thank you to the lovely Jemma from Creative Kitchen for the beautiful cupcakes. Finally, thank you to my mum and daughter Maisie for their expert waitressing and coffee making efforts when I was busy talking! Here’s to the next year!

Spanish Games Night
I mentioned this event a while ago and I’ve just been trying to find a date! So, Spanish games night will debut at CasaLingua on Saturday 10th May and the doors open at 19.00.
Kim will provide a variety of authentic Spanish games and a bit of key language to help you communicate in Spanish as much as possible of the course of the evening. Part of the fun will, however, involve working out the game rules ;)
Booking is required by April 30th. A minimum of 10 people is needed in order to run the event, so tell your (Spanish speaking) friends and let’s have some fun!
What’s happening?
At CasaLingua, there is a great range of regular weekly classes, ones to one lessons and group sessions, but did you know that we also run events? This is the place to be for news, updates and information on past events.
For the kids, there are often half termly events which combine language, culture and crafts, often tied in with seasonal events like Christmas and Halloween. Adults can also enjoy relaxed, sociable evenings with language, food and drink!
Take a look at current and past events to see what is on offer and if you would like CasaLingua to create a bespoke event for you, get in touch.
